Use you manual to determine the correct process for your bike. Then, just to see if there is really all that much difference, check the transmission oil level using the "wrong" method. See if there is all the much difference in the reading on the dipstick.

It's not like the transmission is going to self destruct if the level is over or short of it's stated capacity by a few ounces......
