By not stay set, do you mean the green light turns to red and the cruise control disengages, or do you mean the green light stays on, but the cruise control fails to work?

If the former, the green light turns red, the various suggestions above about the switches and such are relevent.

If the latter, the green light stays lit but the cruise control fails to work, the actuator flat cable or tape is worth investigating.

There are other things that will turn off CC but I agree those three are most likely given the OPs description.
First place I'd look is the roll off switch.
It should also be noted that the FSM has a complete troubleshooting guide for the CC.

The light stays green. but the cc does not stay set when I let go of tghe throttle.

then I think you've a problem between the carburetor/throttle-body and the cruise control unit on the left of the behind the cover. I suspect it's disconnected. Be it a broken tape or the tape connection has broken.
