$500 for first service?

My bike only sees the inside of a dealership for recalls or warranty work. Do your own services. It is an easy task and takes only a few basic tools. Make sure you use top quality oil. You can buy HD oil filters online for about 1/2 what you'll pay for them at the dealer. I buy them in bulk. The dealers will try to make you think that it will void your warranty if you don't get your services done at the dealership. It will not as long as the fluids you use are of equal quality as they use. I use Mobile 1 V-Twin 20w50, Royal Purple or Spectro 75w140 in the trans. For the primary just use a quality motor oil. (synthetic is not necessary.) Don't believe the dealership when they tell you to use the same oil in all three holes. That's a recipe for disaster.

Oh there is some stupid stuff on the list, check front tire pressure #2 check rear tire pressure #27, bike comes with pressure monitors, lube hinge and latch on fuel door with "Harley" lube. # 34, check pads and disks for wear, really at a 1000 miles? So yeah there is some bullshit on the list. Take bike for a ride and beat on it, ok not really but don't like people driving any of my things. If I do it and I might the first time I will have them initials every check box. Most of 36 check points are just double for front and rear so it looks good. As always thanks for the opinions.. Picking her up tomorrow.

Here in Salt Lake area they are close to 400 for the 5k and I believe the 10k is 500. Thus why I took it to an independent for the 10K service. He charged about the same but took pictures of the process and when he said this needs to be replaced it was texted to you.
With the new bikes I just opted to do the prepaid. I haggled my way into a good deal so I am saving some money in the long run and I haven't had time recently to do the service. After they are up though...back to doing it at home.
