06 EGS Carb here. Love it and cost about $2 to rejet after mods.

 

2001 FLHRI with mods, a great runner, superior to the carbed bikes, couldn't see going backand giving up thebetter mileage, reliability, etc. And this on a MM injection system! Flawless. Later in the month the Throttle Body is going out to BC Gerolomy to enlarge its throats for the new heads. Carbed or EFI, you can't go wrong with HD. If you're really unhappy, there are solutions and help.

 

Properly tuned a carb is equal to EFI. I'm thinking (real seriously) of converting my EFI to a carb.

 

if i would of had option for 07 i would of went with carb.
pros-better gas mileage-cost less when you want to modify with pipes air cleaner etc-able to tune to "potato" sound-runs cooler.
cons-cold starts- more polluting...

 

Bottom line, carb sounds better, EFI runs better.

 

I just traded an 06 carborated Road King Custom in on an 07 Ultra Classic. I was lucky and got an outstanding trade in value on the 06 towards the 07. I have to honestly say the 06 carborated model had much more character than the new fuel injected 07.

 

My carbureted bike will still be running long after all the FI bikes' electronics gizmos have shorted out or had to be replaced, checked the price on an ECM latley?

I bought my 06 EGS "because" it had a carb , and it was a pretty fair savings pricewise.
Tuning wise , you can do just about anything with a carb for under $20.00 in mods and have it run great.
I fix fuel injected vehicles all day , every day , and just like the simplicity of the carb for my bike.
I also feel that barring any catastrophic breakdowns , I can get a carb vehicle to "limp home" if I had to.
Just my personal feelings.

You will love the carb bike. I am a LONG time HD wrench & my own personal bike is carbed (I use a Woods Rebel 43.5)although I have worked on/tuned etc tons of EFI bikes & have no problem with EFI.

A carb bike has less electronic gizmo's to go bad & leave you calling a tow truck & run just as well if tuned correctly (my bike is well over 100/100 TQ/HP & gets 46 mpg if I want it to).

I always crack up when someone lists a choke as a big disadvantage. I pull the choke when it is dead cold, give it one shot of gas & it starts before I can get my thumb off the button (boy that sure is tough to do). I could ride it away instantly, but I give it a little warm up time & would do the same with FI.

I also like the fact that carb bikes have a gas reserve setting, FI bikes don't.
