Well have my S&S 100" big bore kit installed and all is well so far. What are your views on the stock carb with dyno jet installed ? it had stage 1 installed with #175 main and # 45 I installed #55 slow and #200 main, thinking of going to #195. no popping ans seems to run ok ..expected more thump....what is next heads or cams and what model numbers? thanks

Did a 95" on my 2002, I left the slow jet at 45 and lifted the needle with two #40 brass washers. My mix is turned out about 2 3/4 turns. I've heard too many stories about the dyno tune kits. Maybe go to a 46 jet (the next biggest?) and a 195 main. The two washers get the needle past the carb fart zone. A '88 Sportster needle does the same thing. I had SE 204 cams installed. Never dyno'd but it would run with the then new 96" engines.

A 55 slow is WAAAYYYYY to big. A 48 would probably work just fine. Actually, probably lots better than what you have. I think a 195 or 200 main is the right jet. But its going to need some test and tune. For me, the tried and true CV test, is to hold it wide open from about 2k, and as the tach sweeps past four grand, let off the throttle just a tad (say 10%), if the motor speeds up, builds more power as you slightly let off, then your still too lean. If not, you got her nailed.

Dyno jet kits SUCK, Drag has a kit that works VERY well part # DS-195100, had a needle and emulsion tube that flat out works in every combination I've ever seen it put in, 45 pilot, start at 2 turns out on mixture screw and I'd start with a 195 main, make sure you have a good STOCK vacuum piston AND spring!
