Default volt meter shows 15 almost 16 volts charging

i have a 2008 ultra,i installed led spots and head light(from fuel moto) this past winter.also installed led break light and trunk break/running lights from super bright lights co.blinkers are stock, didn't want to mess with load resisters.before the install it was showing around 14 volts charging, now its shows almost 16 volts.question is will this create a over charge problem down the road???is this normal with led install on a high amp touring stater???by the way fuel moto leds are fantastic, nice and bright.

I don't understand why you are not getting an over voltage code.
That much voltage, measured at the battery, with a volunteer (not the dash gauge) indicates to me a failing voltage regulatir.

Where are you measuring voltage at? I never put much faith into the bikes voltmeter. Use a DVM at battery as suggested above.

put a real voltage meter across the battery and see what it's really putting out.

Also, be sure to check the voltage at 2000rpm's. It should be 14.1/14.2V but no more than 14.7V.

Yes, check the voltage at the battery at 2000 rpm with a good voltmeter.
Anything over 14.7 volts indicates a voltage regulator on it's way out.

sorry about that ,i should have said the measurement is on the harley dash volt meter.i guess that would be the logical thing to do is put a volt meter across the battery.ill try that next.

easy shortcut is measure at a battery tender pigtail if you have one- saves pulling the seat

as above any reading over 14.8 is a bad VR and will pooch the battery

the harbor freight "free" with any purchase voltmeter is great.

although I use $$$ Fluke meters for work, I have the HF in all my cars and RV

the item above is limited in use
