Default 140 rear tire on a 2001 dresser

I need new tires and was told that I can put a 140 rear tire (stock is a 130 rear tire). This is about 1/2 inch wider than stock. According to my source, extra spacers can be uses to space the wheel/rim so the drive belt will not rub the sidewall of the rear tire.

Has anyone done this? I think the 140's are already on the newer model dressers.
If you happen to have pics and detailed instructions that would be great.

I'm about 2 hrs away from getting a 140 Metzler put on the rear of my 99. No spacers needed. Here's a link for you. It'll show how big you can go on your model&year bike. http://www.us.metzelermoto.com/tyres...PCFTFYKJOPSFEY

That is exactly what I want to do...plus i need a new front tire as well.
I am going with the metzeler narrow white wall, but was unsure about going with the bigger rear (140) tire.
Let me know how it works out for you. I will get new tires later this week or the first of next week.

I put a 140 tire on my '03 and the tire rubbed the belt. I bought a spacer that was advertised in hot bike magazine....i can't recall the brand. It solved the problem.

Nice, useful link if your bike is 05 or older. Wonder why is does not include more recent years.

This topiccomes upmonthly! I've replaced the stock Dunlop 402 on my '01 FLHR with a 2004-and-up MU 85 Dunlop using the $ 35.00 Pingel Rear Sprocket Spacer at: http://www.pingelonline.com/rear_sprocket_spacer.htm
No other mods required. Probably one of the best "accessories" I bought this year. And the additional stability of the wider tire on the highway - priceless.

A good friend with an '03 Ultra had a 140 Dunlop mounted at the HD dealer (their mistake since he simply wanted the stock tire, 130 width) and had some rubbing from the belt guard or belt.
