There are three things to consider, to give your back an easier time. Comfort starts at the road, so 1. when tyre change time comes around use a more compliant brand, to give an easier ride. Most important is 2. a decent pair of rear shocks, to take out the bangs and thumps which stock shocks are so good at giving us. Finally 3. a seat is the cherry on top, to give your butt an easy time. Unfortunately there is a wide choice for each of those three!

My choices are: Avons, Ohlins, Corbin.

Definitely look at an adjustable rider backrest. Its one of the best mods I did to my bike.

Yup. I've been riding with one on a 2002 Fat Boy for 12 or 13 years. You're gonna pay for one of these, but your back will thank you.

No 2 asses are alike, so what someone recommends for a seat
because it cradles their *** don't mean yours will feel the same.
Some shops have a program where you can 'use a seat' to see if
it is to your liking or not.

Or you can call Allen at MeanCity Cycles and describe where you feel
the pain, and he may have suggestions where his seat mod may help.

An adjustable backrest is valuable, as are hiway pegs.....

Choosing a seat is almost as fun as choosing ape hangers !!!
Both can be quite expensive if its a trial and error method.

Default Harley Hammock Seat

When my back was killing me I purchased a Harley Hammock seat. Did wonders for my back while riding. The hammock function really works and makes a world of difference. The bad part is they are quite expensive, but worth it in my opinion. Thankfully my back is better now and I was able to get me a nice solo seat.

Comfort wise a backrest is the most important change I have ever made. It forces you to have better posture and allows you to lean back. It helps your back from bottom to top. I have ridden over 900 miles in a day with mine.

Your back is hurting in what way?

If it's the jolts that cause the most problems then as others have stated shocks, tires and a softer seat will make the most difference.

If it's positioning, then a backrest and a seat would be tops on the list.

Good luck! Having back issues really does put a damper on riding.
