2006 Ultra

I already have an inexpensive small lift--sort of a no-name I would say. It has actually served me well but I want to upgrade to a better one. The one I have operates a bottle jack by foot to lift. It has swing out "stabilizing" arms that are quite flimsy. Works fine for me but I am wary of stability so I rarely lift the cycle to the highest stop. Mostly I lift it just enough to get the tires off the floor when that is necessary or to get the cycle upright for changing transmission and primary oil.

I want one similar to what I have: foot operated, not the handle kind and not a scissor type that must be cranked to lift or lower. Of course it must fit under the Ultra while the cycle is on the jiffy stand. I have an air compressor I can use if some are pneumatic. From searching the internet, to me they all look like the flimsy one I have. Perhaps someone on this forum knows about a good one.

I know all of these things are made in China. Likely none are made in the USA. Cost is not a priority.

Thanks for any of your experiences with small lifts and your recommendations.

Harbor Freight has an Aluminium ATV/Cycle 1500 lb lift that goes on sale every so often.

I bought one a few years back and like you I don't use it but every so often like oil changes and maintenance, so far I'm happy with it and its done its job on a Soft Tail and now my Road Glide.

I use the Harbor Freight one. Had it 5 years and it's worked flawless for me.

Keithhu: that JS jack looks terrific. I watched the video and I am impressed. Also impressed with the price--it is as stout as the jack.

us1fountain: what is unusual about being a member since 2008? Many have been here much longer.

Once you use it you will forget about the cost.

The J&S is by far the best. No argument from me on that. One area it beats all of the others is moving the bike with it on the lift. The J&S just rolls better. May not sound like a big deal but it can be.
That said the J&S is not low cost. There are a few low cost ones that work. Like the sears pro.
If you can spent the cash , get the J&S and buy once with no regrets .

I picked up a J&S a couple weeks ago after much research. This jack is great. It's sturdy even at full height. If you look at the measurement of the many jacks on the market, this jack is longer and wider than the others. Believe me, this is a good jack.
Great for changing the fluids and for cleaning, especially for the tires and rims.

Point is, most folks that have been on HDForums for that long would have seen a billion jack threads.

Let me boil every single one of them down to the following responses, this will cover nearly 100% of every opinion:

  • J&S jack - expensive but worth it. (or Pitbull)
  • What, are you crazy, thats ridiculously expensive! I use the Sears yellow jack (or Harbor Freight, pretty much interchangeable)
  • Sears, are you joking? You paid $20K for a bike and now you are cheaping out on a flimsy jack? I used one once, and my bike practically lept off of it by itself. Never again
Do some reading and tell me if I'm not right. You will probably see these responses in this thread as well
