Default Rear shocks on a budget

I am looking for input on a descent set of rear shocks for my 08 Ultra. I would like to lower 1/2" from stock. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, Just something a little better than the stock air rides.

What's the budget? Everybody's idea of "on a budget" is different.

My vote would be Ohlins #2 from Motorcycle Metal. Once you take rider sag into account, the 2-2b would get you your 1/2". The 2-2a would be about a full inch, maybe a bit more with sag. Howard could tell you for sure.

Ask him for a quote. You'd be surprised by the price and by the ride.

This won't help you lower it, but I've changed oil in my rear air shocks on my '06 FLHX from the original 5 weight to 15 weight...made a WORLD of difference. Many guys use 10 weight and it's sufficient. There are some threads on this forum that outline the procedure.

I'd recommend that you get yourself a set of Progressive 412s and call it a day. They're affordable, widely available, and a good product. My OL has Progressive shocks on her Road King and they ain't bad.

agreed. been running those since for more than a decade on my FXR, then my 89 flhtcu and now my 07 Flhtc. quite affordable, way better than stock. sure the ohlins may be better and so would upgraded progressive, just din't have that kind of money. so if i don't look at those, these become great because they are better that stock

I think I am going to give the Progressive 412 a try. Now do I go with standard 13" or 12.5"? Standard spring or HD spring? I am 5'9" and 195lbs in the raw. Decisions, decisions...

I did the Progressive 412 HD in 12" height on my EGC. It was a 3/4" drop from stock I think. Much improved ride over air shocks. Two up used to be painful but now it handles most all bumps without bottoming out. Im 6'1 220lbs
