Are you happy with the ride on your touring bike when you are solo? It's not to stiff?

 

They are adjustable. 5 or 6 adjustment detents on the 412. I ride at step 2 solo and it rides just as well as step 4 where we ride 2 up. I am very happy with my choice as well as my wife. I didn't break the bank (were cheaper by $30 when bought last season) and the ride quality is good to me, granted I have never riden other models of shocks. You have to remove bags to get to adjustment collar but not a big deal to me. I ride solo 75% of the time with trunk removed.

 

progressives from ebay. i did it. much better. anything is better than those junky air shocks

 

I actually prefer my air shocks to the Progressives!

 

just my take. About 7-8 yrs ago I got the proggressive(940??) something like that ,knew it would be lacking but wtf, sag lowered about 1/2-1 inch(fine,ok).

If I could have done it again i would either go up or down cause for 500$ very little bang for my buck on the (REAR) compared to the eom imo.

 

I studied shocks long and hard around HDF and found that many members were not happy with cheap shocks. Naturally opinions vary a lot, but there was an underlying trend in which many members keep trying alternative brands, spending time and money, yet not finding cheap shocks to their satisfaction. What they eventually found, as did I, that buying good quality shocks skipped past all that waste and got me to nirvana pdq.

Which is a round-about way of suggesting that the cheapest solution is actually to buy good quality shocks at the outset! That gives good results straight away and saves a lot of money. Ohlins from HDF sponsor Howard at Motorcycle Metal did the trick for us.....

 

I just finished taking a ride on the new progressive 412's. For the $240.00 I spent on them I couldn't be happier. They are a big improvement over stock in my opinion. I ended up going with the standard spring and 12.5" length.

 

Pretty common for budget buyers to purchase a pair of take off HD Premium hand adjustable shocks from these forums ore bay. About $300, then sell your air shocks for about $100 the same way. Cheap and effective.

They are way better shocks for both ride and handling. Simple bolt on, takes about 15 minutes after you have your bike jacked up.

If you get the 13" you will be about the same height. The 12" will lower you down 3/4"

Ohlins are even better, but lots more $$.

This is the shock Harley provides on their CVO and Special editions.

 

All that matters is you pulled the trigger, and are happy with the result.
As you have seen, there are a plethora of ideas. The one that works for you, is always the best idea. I have never been unhappy with a Progressive Shock Purchase. I'm betting your feeling the same way.
