Default transmission main bearing

By any chance does anyone know how many hours the dealer or shop would charge to do a main output bearing in the tranny? Juat curious as to how much time in labor.

thanks

I dont know if Baker Drivetrain does work like this, but you might consider taking it to them, they're near Lansing. If they do, they'd almost certainly do better work than any of the Michigan dealerships, and I would have to believe for less money. But even if not less money, definitely would be worth the peace of mind.

I don't remember the details but when mine went out about 5 or 6 years ago, the total repair was in the $900 range at the dealer with parts and labor.

Having bought the parts already, it's possible that some dealerships might not do the labor only...they possibly would if they are genuine OEM parts. Some independent shops might feel the same way. Has to do with 'who warrantees what?'...plus there are a certain amount of margin in the parts that does play into what you're ultimately charged.

What bike do you have? On my 2010 ultra I can have the trans pulled and back together in a little over 3 hours and that's in my garage. I would think the dealer would bill about the same. You can be sure whatever they bill you for they are going to do it in about 1/half the time

If you have the parts, put it in. It can be pulled with simple all thread rod. Locking the belt drive up to get to it may require a tool if you don't have a large impact. If you plan on them doing it, I sure would let them do it with Harley parts they secure. I can just see them now, saying it's your part that is causing the problem if something did come up later. It's an all day job.
