Recently bought the Kuryakyn 7643 Trailer Hitch Rack and was looking for Ideals about what kind of bag or box to use with it. Will probably just use it for a cooler on weekend trips but would like to use it for extra storage for clothes or gear when doing long trips. So for those of you have this rack or similar racks what are you using?

This is what I use on my 14, Hidden Receiver Hitch with box mounted. On the 09 I have a Rivco rack similar to your Kuryakyn, tried numerous coolers/duffle bags back there.

 

Here's a duffle bag with some wet beach towels under the cargo net drying out.

 

My ride is a 2017 Road Glide Special, which has the fender extension/light. The Kuryakyn hitch rack 7643 fits just fine, installed on the Kuryakyn hidden hitch for my model at the lower ball/hitch setting. Just one problem. The rack is the same level as my pipes and the exhaust will now hit the corner of the rack and the bottom corner of my bag.
I might have to put a little metal shield on the rack to protect both but that's probably going to be tedious.
I could ignore the exhaust air on the rack and just raise the bag up with some wood spacer.
Does anyone have any experience with a shield or maybe some way to move the rack up so it's out of the exhaust airflow?
