Exclamation 05 Ultra "crunch" noise at start

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Occasionally I get a "crunch" type sound on the left side of the bike when I start it.
Is this the starter or would it be the jack shaft?
I guess it COULD also be the gear ring on the clutch pack.
Or is it something else?
Any ideas would be appreciated. About to go on a couple long trips and dont want to be stranded.

Could be starter clutch. Do you have the 38 amp rotor still? I changed a bud's 38 amp rotor to 45 amp on his 05 Ultra due to the teeth that goes on the splines being sheered off.

I think I already had the 45 amp on it, but I dont recall. Looks like at a minimum the primary needs to come off.

Are your starter bolts tight? If so might be compensator you might have to open her up and take a look
