My primary tech never had anyone do this, and didn't have an answer.

I may be wrong here don't exactly remember but doesn't the stock backing plate 2014+ support some of the weight air cleaner cover? 14+ Cover is actually quite heavy.

If that's the case I can just open up the inlet on the current set up to about the same size ?

Doesn't seem like a big deal, qre you doing it for looks or performance?

If you are leaving the cat, don't use a tuner - the added gas in the exhaust will work the cat harder, making more heat, and no performance gain

Not performance gain, but if there is a 1% gain then great. wanting to do it for a couple of reasons. 1- I like the way the newer version looks and it doesn't make as much of a vacuum sound when accelerating hard. As riding mine then riding my buddies with the new intake and since he is going with the heavy breather his will be free.

You and guys like you I run into all the time on forums. Offer nothing but criticism to people to somehow make yourselves feel better. And yes you basically fired an insult to my tech who happens to be close family so you basically insulted my family.
So good luck to you and thanks for the well wishes.

LostTiny, I get the fact that you're new to Harley's and was unsure about whether tuning was needed or not but your Tech should've known the answer. The fact that he's a close family member is irrelevant. Changing the cover on a stock breather still leaves you with a stock breather. Simple as that. Truth of the matter is they could all benefit from a proper tune, bone stock or not.
