Default rear shock length

Ordering Progressive replacement rear shocks and need an accurate length for my 2004 Road King Custom. I know for a fact that a Custom has shorter rear shocks than standard Road Kings but I can't find out by how much. Every resource I've checked (Harley Davidson AND Progressive) gives the same length of rear shocks for BOTH models which I know is WRONG. Too big of an investment to make a mistake, anybody know where I can check to be 100% sure?

I'd say walk out to your bike and take a tape measure with you.

I am guessing, but the choices are probably 11 or 12 inches. Street Glides, for example, come with 11" shocks, but 12" will work. I had 12" on mine just to get the height a little better for me. So, the question might be which do you want for your size. Either will work.

This is my thought too.

BTW the touring bikes had either 12 or 13 inch shocks, and only the X models got the shorter ones.

Wink

I think you will find that your model year bike has the same length shocks as the other touring models of that year. The shorter version wasn't introduced until a couple of years later IIRC. So your bike came stock with what are routinely called 13" shocks, although actually a little shorter, at around 12.7".

the customs, street glides, lows etc. come with 12'' shocks while the standard touring models are 13'' shocks.

Does switching from 12" to 13" rear shocks require the drive belt to be readjusted?
