we have a 2003 electra glide ulta classic and are attemping to swap the useless compass with an oil temp gauge. the instruction sheet tells how to do it from an air temp gauge and we seem to be a wir short??? has any one done this?

which oil temp gauge are you installing?

The one I looked at some time ago had a sensor in the oil pan next to the drain plug, and required running wiring up to the dash

Geez...and I thought the air temp guage was useless. I didn't realize earlier models had a compass.

Anyhow...are probably missing the wire that comes from the air temp sensor. This is connected to the oil pan sensor, when installing the oil temp guage. Assuming the oil temp guage can mechanically fit in the compass spot, you'll likely have to wire up the sensor separately.

I have a service manual for my '12, and can copy the air temp schematic if that will help. PM me, with your email address, if you want that.
