I put a 6 or 7 inch shorty on I got at Walmart and it works fine for me. I'm sure a lot depends on where you live, the closer you are to a bigger city the better the reception.
The antenna I bought was $5-$6. Can't go wrong.

I has been noted in this thread but to be clear there are different shorties for FM and CB.

That whole impedance thing..........

Great suggestion, (auto zone)
I too, hated the long whips, then one year, 07, or 08, I bought a new bike that had the 4inch stubbies, and was really happy until I left the city for a ride, and found the reception was TERRIBLE .......
I guessing that Harley had gotten quite a few complaints, because every new bike I purchased after that, had gone back to the whips.
I will be making a stop at Auto Zone in the near future !
Thank-you !!

I removed my antenna and coiled the harness for it under the seat behind the battery. Somehow I still get reception. But I don't care for FM radio so not sure how long I would have reception out of town.

I bought one of these the other day and hopefully it will be in today for testing
am/fm and CB

initially I did the antenna hide under the seat BUT there are some AM news stations I like to listen to and under the seat didn't cut it at all

Most dealers don't know this but there is one H-D CB shorty antenna part # for the 08 and earlier years, and 09 and later use a different part # shorty CB antenna.

I'm running the Antenna Concepts 21" Whip Antenna from J&P cycles. There weren't any antennas on the bike when I bought it and I didn't want the long Harley ones so these looked like a good choice.

J&M Audio offers some that are 17" long and work great for both the CB and Radio

I have the HD shorty's and saw very little difference with FM. I never use the CB. I added a J&M hidden antenna when I did the detachable tour pak and so now difference with that either. I leave the shorty's on the TP even though I don't use them now. I think the bike looks weird without them, and I have the antenna mounted 6x9 flag holders, so they're still needed.
