Road King owners - 103 and 107
Gents, (and ladies)
I've loved the classic and simplistic style of the RK for a long time - I've read every article and watched every video about them. My questions to those who ride/have ridden either model is - Is the new 107 worth the "upgrade". I can probably find a left over used 103 at a much better price point - but should I just reach a little further and grab a new 107? I know what your thinking..."Go test Ride", well I reside in the godforsaken northeast and right now there is a damn blizzard going on. Seriously - no work today. Any advice and wisdom about those RK enthusiasts would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys.

I own a '16 with 103 engine, and I've ridden the new 107 on a whim while my bike was being serviced.
I can only speak for me, but if I was in the market to buy one right now I'd go for the 103 just because of the finances. That's just my preference after 8k on my bike, but only about 25 on the new model. I just don't see a compelling reason to spend the additional money on a first year engine.
The only thing I've done to mine is replace the entire exhaust system with a Rinehart system, a breather, and then tuning it with a Power Vision tuner.

I think as far as Road Kings go, the 103 has plenty of power, especially for the savings between the two bikes. The 107 is a really good engine with a lot of improvements, but my 2011 RKC with the 103 and stage 1 had all the power I needed without jumping up to something with stupid power like a 120.

Thanks for all the information guys - I must say I agree the 103 is a solid power plant that has been proven over the years. I will certainly have to give them both a ride once spring hits the northeast.
Also interesting I saw the new Road King Special just landed, looks very nice, however I don't like that the windshield will have to be purchased after the fact.

Harley's business plan has always been to make each year a little better than the year before and entice you to spend a bunch of money to 'upgrade'. You will be perfectly happy with the 2016, just like all the people who bought any of the Rushmore models when they were the 'must have' bikes. You will probably get a much better deal buying in February than waiting until spring like everyone else.
That RK Special is $3k more than the regular RK for less bike... I guess if you gotta have a murdered out bike, you'd spend that much to pay someone to strip and coat everything... but they sure are marketing geniuses.
