The standard model back rest stays on my 2000 FLHTC all the time - SWMBO has no trouble getting on or getting off. I'm 6'2" and the pad position is perfect for me.

A friend bought the Tallboy® Seat for his Electra Glide, which moves the rider back 1/2" and up 1-1/4" ... problem was the standard backrest was too short for the new seat. I lengthened the backrest uprights by 1 1/2" and it now works well. I'd be happy to do this for other members if anyone needs that done.

I would not be without mine on a long ride, it sure helps to beat rider fatigue. On short rides I just leave it off.

I got the standard backrest. Considered the wizbang adjustable one, but figured if it's like most things Id never adjust it once "the" spot was found. The standard one moves up/down 4 positions, can be mounted in one of 3 positions forward/back, and can be fine tuned (forward/backward) with the allen wrench bolt access hole in the back once on. Plus, you can flip it forward with your leg as you mount up. And, WAAAYYYYY cheaper on EBay (or this forum's classified).

I pick my Ultra up tomorrow and had the dealer install the rider backrest. I can't wait to try it out. I was tired of always having a sore back after a long ride so I hope it helps!
