Default Air cleaner

Hi I'm still new to this so if I'm posting this in the wrong "group" please let me know! I currently have the screaming eagle elite air cleaner. For those that don't know it is the cone type of air cleaner. I've heard the open element is better for purpose reasons. Wondering for those that have open element is there one that doesn't leak (blow by) oil all over your bags and cam cover? Roland Sands makes the Venturi and it states in the description that it's leak free does anyone know if that's true? Thanks!

unless you have a BUNCH of work done on your motor, just about any hi flow air cleaner will flow more air than your motor can demand.

and any of the air cleaners should direct any blow by into the throttle body, if not you may have a bad seal or less likely trouble in the motor

I have stage 4 tman 577 cams ported throttle body. DD fat cat for a pipe. The SE elite air cleaner I have now doesn't leak but was thinking about switching to an open element. I was told there's better flow with it

I doubt you'd see any diff between the 2.

in theory- the long intake runner you have now will be better for torque...and a shorter intake tract of the RSV might be better for horsepower...but the diff either way would be negligible

I've got the K&N open filter on both of my Dynas, been there for many, many years and I have never experienced the oil drip from the filter. On my 2013 RGU I checked my filter after our last road trip, just a coating of oil residue. I keep my oil levels below full on the Dynas and at mfg. recc. level on the RGU. Just put an A/N open on the RGU, so we'll see. Hope this helps.

Don't over fill the oil it won't leak. I have had heavy breather on several bikes with no problems

As Smitty901 said, Excessive oil blow by can be curbed by NOT over filling. If Fact, most prefer to run their oil level below the Half-way mark.

If Blow By is still a concern, especially being re-routed into your intake, we can get you fixed up with an external breather system. You can see them HERE

Just a thought. Have a friend that has the same air cleaner. He has had it for three years. This year/season he cleaned and applied the oil himself. He put way too much on. Which made it leak all season. I had a KN filter on my 93 classic and did the same thing. years back. Check the oil residue. If it's red in color it is the filter oil. Easy fix. Clean and reapply the oil to the filter. Just wiping it up with a paper towel should tell you if that's it. Good luck.

Default Stage 1 and Breather Bypass

I decided on the K&N 1614 along with doing a breather bypass to finish my Stage 1. Running an FP3 tuner and Vance and Hines 450 Raiders as well.

First, I added a small plastic plug where the breather tube would go.

Then took a 5/16 hose to snuggly fit over the air cleaner tube and placed a 1/4 to 1/2 barbed union about halfway down, and attached a piece of 3/8 to fit over the breather inlet which is placed at about the 5 o'clock position on the air box.

I had drilled a 3/8 hole at 5 o'clock and pressed in the breather nipple so the breather sits flush on the air box. The clamped hose hold the breather element firmly in place.

The finished product. I never had any oil drips, but in the event they start, I will then just route the breather element lower on the bike. I placed it here to keep it cleaner and out of harms way.
