Usually I do not buy "extended warranties"

I did buy one for my current bike, and my previous bike.
Never had to use it, but will glad to have it when / if something go's bad.

I am looking into purchasing the ESP from www.discountesp.com. Does anyone have good or bad things to say about them. I am also planning on getting a trailer, and I know Harley will not cover anything if I hook up a trailer to my bike. One thing I liked was that with the aftermarket from discountesp is you can take your bike to any licensed service place.

Here's my buck fitty...

I don't know how this got started (HD's false advertising maybe?) but I always say something... The ESP (extended service plan) is something I haven't heard of in a long time. It was expensive but if you ride a lot of miles (live in a year 'round riding location) then that was definitely worth it for the first time at least (assuming the dealer or HD doesn't know you ride high miles yet). Prepay for service which is getting higher by the minute so maybe it's not offered anymore because they were losing money? Dunno.

The EWP (extended warranty plan) is worth it if you ride medium miles based upon the quality control issues with the parts. If you ride high miles on lousy roads add the tire warranty. The dealer gets a kick back from HD if they do the financing and the warranty. They get a better deal from some of the third party EWP providetrs, apparently, or they wouldn't recommend them over HD.

EWP providers seem to tighten up as you make more an more use of them. For example, some dealers, I have heard, are replacing the lower sliders on the front end due to pitting under warranty. My EWP refused to do so. They stated "it has to be failing". It's debatable if a defective surface treatment should be considered failing vs. factory finish defect I guess.

I've never heard of a dealer replacing lower fork sliders under esp. or any other 'cosmetic' issue either. maybe it was just something that the dealer was able to work out under the table?

Question Esp/clutch/black oil/no adjustment,

Slight Background, .......I purchased a 2011 RGC this past December 15 2019 from Hannum's HD in Rahway N.J. . It has a stage 3 upgrade with 24,724 miles. I was under the assumption that all the fluids have been changed and the bike checked out thoroughly as I never doubted the salespersons word. I also purchased the ESP for 2 years. OK ......Keep in mind its December and snow on the ground so i couldn't take her for a test ride. They delivered the bike to me end of Jan. In Dec. we had a couple of nice days so i took her for a ride only to find out the bike wouldn't go into neutral. FINE, Called the dealer and they picked her up did a clutch adjustment . They delivered the bike to me and I never doubted their work so i just let the delivery guy driver her into my garage and park her for the winter, Its now May 3 I have only put 200 miles on the bike since Dec................WELL GUESS WHAT !! I still cant get her into neutral. Ok so now im partially disgusted and say **** it ill adjust it myself, having owned HD's all my life I figure ts a simple process, time consuming but easy.I pull the derby cover off and stick long Q tip down in there to check color and quality of oil and what comes up oil is black as coal and tiny shiny metal shards, Obviously the fluids are not changed as the same happened with engine oil except not quite as black, anyway,,,,of coarse now i have to change the primary fluid and I do. AS to no surprise ,pitch black oil and tons of silver shards come streaming out. Im baffled because I cant figure out where the shards are from, Its either the clutch is so worn down to the metal or the clutch basket is starting to fall apart. (Adjuster screw is all the way backed out ) OK, so now my ???? Is the clutch and the clutch basket covered under ESP. OH and 1 other thing, the ESP dont kick in until i hit 300 miles. MY FEELING IS THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE CLUTCH AS MUCH AS THEY COULD AND FIGURED I WOULD RIDE IT LIKE THAT SO I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW CLUTCH. IF IM NOT MISTAKEN , THERES ONLY A FEW THINGS THAT ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY ARE BATTERY, BRAKES AND CLUTCH AND REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE.
