Default HD beach bar questions

Ive read several threads on bars including 34 pages on RK handle bars. Great threads but still a few questions. Im 6'2" with a 2011 road king and believe the HD beach bar at 36" wide is what I want.

My questions are do I need to run the flush gas caps to clear the bars and do I need longer cables?

Well, hello newman or should I say hello hellonewman ?

You don't need the flush mount fuel caps although they look very nice.

As far as the cables go, I can't give you an exact answer. The specs for the HD beach bars is:
Width: 36"
Rise: 2.5"
Pullback: 14"

Given the width of the beach bars, my gut says you would probably need longer cables.

Here is my set up on a 2012 Heritage. I have the HD beach bars with the flush mount gas caps. I hope this provides some information you didn't get from the other threads. BTW, I'm 5'9" and really like the beach bars. I believe you will like them as well.

That does help, seeing them on the same bike helps for sure! One thing I didn't consider is my knee getting in the way of the grip or close to it but I like the look of the lower bars. I also want to avoid the wheel barrow handle angle as well which I think the drag bars would be like.

The HD P&A catalog has a multi page table in the back that tells exactly what cables are needed for each of their handlebars on various bikes.

I have Wild1's 551 beach bar on my 09 RKC, similar to HD. I had to extend the wiring, but the clutch/brake cable was fine. When you first put them on with the switches/clutch/brake, snug the clamp so the bars can be adjusted up/down, then turn the bars all the way to each side SLOWLY to see if they clear the tank, that's if you position them low and follow the lines of the tank. Your caps will be fine.

Turns out thats not the case. I did see that in my catalog earlier this week and it mentioned needing hardware and that it varied depending on the application so today I went into the local dealer where I bought the bike and asked. They said 9 out of 10 times whats suggested in the catalog is wrong so they install the bars, make the measurements and order the length (if required) on a bike by bike basis. I can't say the catalog suggestions wont work but maybe the best was is to measure and order so Ill just get the bars and go from there I guess.

Thank you! Why did you chose the wild1's over the HD?

Wild ones make wonderful bars, have great chrome, are 1.25" in dia. And.... if you shop, are less expensive than your local HD dealer.

I get helping the little guys, Im one of them in the car world. I called Wild1's today and they're closing today until the new year. Im ordering the 518 bars once they open up again. They were very helpful on the phone.
