FLHT Ultra Speedo-drive `95-96 ???
Posted this over on another site, but gunna hit all the bases – apologies if you’ve already read this once…
I broke the speedo-cable on my `96 Ultra; ordered a new one, except they tell me my `96 has an electronic speedo – not -- mine (titled/registered as a `96, VIN seems to support that) has a conventional cable-drive off the left side of the front wheel… so I order a 1995 45-degree cable, looks identical to the one on the bike… but the drive-gear on the wheel seems to have a press-in (integral with the cable drive-gear housing) arrangement, so the Drag Specialties screw-in cable doesn’t seem compatible once old housing was extracted (turned out to be kinked, hence I suspect the worn/broken speedo-cable); indeed the current housing has no threads for the cable housing at all… or at least it doesn’t seem to…
So, I said, I’ll just order a `95 drive gear and be done with it, except in the pictures at least, the `95 drive-gears seem to have a lengthy spacer which mine doesn’t have… mine has two-prongs that fit into notches and side-to-side seems narrower than the ones for the `95s…
Beginning to wonder if my Ultra isn’t one of Milwaukee’s famous parts-bin specials… but can’t guess which speedo drive to order…
Any ideas would be muchly appreciated…
Thanks,
Larry
