a big motor must be a blast to ride. i have no experience with which size to build. my thoughts on it, are that the 88 and now, like my 96" motors were made to haul two people with loaded bags, tourpack etc, right along at a good hiway pace, with little to no problems, and do it without the motor complaining. it'd be easy to sink a ton of money into a motor, only to find that it could become unreliable and finicky. do what you want, but the 103 would be my choice, if i were interested in more oomph. i must be getting old if i am happy with the power i've got now. but happy i am, and old i am.

I would go with the 110. I am looking at one for myself at the moment. I have a friend that has a 110 on his ultra classic, and he can bring the front tire off of the ground. I am not saying you want to go around doing stunts on a touring bike, I am just saying, it has that much power.

Default Bigger motor

Personal experience - Went with the 103". Have heard of unhappiness with the 110". The 103", with the SE 6 speed just ran back from Sturgis to AZ 80-85 mph @ around 50 mpg. With the Thunder Header it dyno'd at over 100 fp of torque. Very happy.

Think I'd start by putting the 1/2 price 110 kit on ebay. make a little $$ and then start doing some real research on what's good & works vs. what might "sound like a deal".

To be brutally honest, I would not use one of those 110 kits if it was free. I can all but ASSure you that you will start trying to tie up loose ends and make it the way you "thought" it would/should be and begin discovering that it would take things like a decent set of cams, or a decent set of heads, or oh.... perhaps I should have went to a 113 or 117, only to hear "sorry pal, the 110" is a bastard config and there's nothing I can do with these cases now".

Proceed with caution....

btw - yes, I did notice that this is a two year old thread that has sprouted new legs...

107 is no question the best bang for the buck.

I'm with Phil...the 110 is junk...even for free.

Agreed. I just spend two weeks in the Smoky Mountains riding with friends. One of which has cash to burn and tweaked his motor up to 110". We talked and he said if he did it all over again, he'd stay with the 96" due to the strains the big motor puts on the rest of parts. He has one problem after another, not much fun to me. BTW, he starter died during the trip which ruined his fun. The big motor kicked all the teeth off his starter, guess he has to get a bigger, better starter too. Love my 96"!

I'm with PhilM, if you gave me a SE 110" kit it would be on ebay the next day. I have seen first hand the problems with the SE 110" motors. Wish I had stock in Axtell! A properly built Twin Cam will easily handle 120-130 cuin. Flywheels and cylinders, irregardless of size, are within pennies of each other, e.g. 4 1/2 crank and 4 5/8 crank are the same costs...same goes for pistons, cylinders, machine work, etc... My .02, 124" done by one of the shops like Hillside, Head Quarter, Tman, R&R, GMR, and dozens of other reputable performance shops.

I agree with PhilM and gunnert, there are a lot better ways to go and you will get more bang for your buck staying away from HD.

I had an 07 Screamin Eagle Road King with the 110. Even after doing cam work I was only getting 101 HP and 113 TQ out of it. Ended up selling it and building the engine in my 03 Road King.

You will have the 4 3/8 crank in the 07. I would spend the money building a nice 107. Trust me, it will eat a SE 110 for lunch. Take a look at Hillside and Head Quarters, they build great engines. I even like Speeds Performance in V.A, he tuned my bike for me and builds some nice engines as well.

Take your time and build it right the first time..It's cheaper...
