Budget winter upgrade/re-build
Although I ride pretty much year round here in GA. I'm putting the bike in the shop in a few weeks due to the very high miles, 106,000+ on this 2008 E.G.C. with a current stock 96" except for 255 cams & V&H high flow breather, and full-boar slip-ons with 2" baffles on stock head pipe. Bike still runs strong, but has developed an oil leak that starts behind the rear jug, and possibly the rear push rod, gets on the back top of the engine case, and starts dripping under the motor. Sometimes I notice oil on the top fins of the rear jug and the rear exhaust pipe as well. Took it to the INDY shop I use, the shop owner/TECH said he thinks it's getting TOO MUCH BLOWBY due to worn rings maybe, suggested doing a leak-down and compression test, but after I told him I was on a budget, he suggested doing a basic STAGE I S.E. BIG BORE KIT, not a 106 or 107 due to the millage on the bottom end, clean and re-build the stock heads (NOT PORTED & POLISHED) and install manual comp. releases on them, new lifters, and keep the 255 cams I already have, and inspect the compensator. He said $1,200. min. for labor, at least $1,300. in parts, but he said to plan on a $2,500. to $3,000. bill at the end. More than likely I'll go with this as I'm not ready to spend $20,000.-25,000. for another bike yet, and even with the miles this one still handles and rides great, no wobbling or anything. I thought about looking for a used 103 motor, but between the cost for it + the install it probably would be more than 3K, and I like that if I let the INDY do the work I'll still have the matching engine case number. I'm physically disabled as a right-leg amputee, and I don't keep any specialty tools, although I do my own basic maintenance, but doing this myself is out of the question, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Many years ago I did much the same with my local indy! My bike engine had oil leaks and a couple of other things that needed fixing. By spending on an upgrade, on an off season 'package deal' which came with all the labour gaskets and parts for the upgrade, the cost of the extra couple of fixes was very small. Seems perverse to spend more money to save some, but I was happy and suspect you will be as well. It costs a lot of labour to replace gaskets and worn seals, but if they come with more performance for a bit more cash.......

I'm running a 10:1 comp 96" motor with 220 ccp and it cranks fine with a stock starter and no comp releases on it.

Since I'm not having any headwork done except for rebuilding the stock 96" heads, and having the S.E. Stage I 103 big bore kit installed, what cams should I get if I don't keep the current 255's, I'd like to have plenty of bottom end torque, as well as some in the low to mid 3's, but don't want to much on this bottom end with over 106,000 miles. I haven't talked to the INDY tech about this yet, but I'd like some suggestions on which cams I should go with for this.
