Question Wife has a question

Hello.. Need some help. My hubby has a 1999 Road King. He wants to put a 21" rim and tire on there. I wanted to make it happen for Christmas on my own. GULP. Question. 21" spoke rim I get but what the 1.5 2.5 2.5 about? The width of the tire you want on there? What do you normally run on this? ANd can I just buy a rim and then the tire later? Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

The number in question is the wheel width, and yes typically the wider the wheel, the wider the tire that goes on it. A wider tire will typically track straighter, but a skinnier tire is far more visually appealing to some folks or styles.

I love my wife, and I love it when she gets me toys for my toys, but we have an agreement that she only buys me exactly what is on the running list that I have. She is allowed to choose anything off of the list she wants, or a group of things, if they are supporting parts. But the list has what I want/need exactly spelled out so there is no confusion. She has a list for me with things she wants that have to be exact as well.

Good luck.

Be careful spokes can mean more than one thing. Wire spokes like a bicycle or cast spokes like in 9 spoke wheel. Work his buddies they know what he wants.

That's a good idea. We have sponsors of HDF who can supply the wheel, probably a gift certificate to go with.

Look for the blue horizontal bar above and pick 'Vendor Directory', where you will find a few suppliers and their websites or other contact details.

I like the gift cert. idea too. If I was going to do a major change, like wheels,I
d probably change my mind a lots of time before I bit the bullet[er,pulled the trigger?] and decided on a wheel style!
Oh yeah-you must be a great wife! Got a sister?

With the 21" tire he'll need a new fender too.
Give him the gift certificate.

Yeah.....once you have the right size there are SOOOO many styles to choose from. Even if you try to match the existing wheel but in a 21 there are a lot of variables. Your heart is in the right place that's for sure, but I would agree with the above and go gift certificate.

I would assume new rotors would accompany the wheel.
