I tried the Long Ride and didn't like it. The shield I use is a 16" Freedom and I also use the Harley deflectors as well as the lowers that I added. At 6' tall this gives me zero turbulence at any speed.

I'm 6' and have a long torso, and ride on a police seat (sets yiu up about 3" higher than a stock non ultra seat) so I'm sitting pretty high I the saddle.

I have zero buffeting issues, so I will share my set up:

15" KW Pro touring shield
Crash bar mounted deflectors
Kurry tripple tree deflector
Pre 14 vented lowers
Ride with top vent open all of the time (open the bottom 2 when it's warm out)

This combo works well for me. T
The crash bar deflectors and the lowes make a HUGE difference, the tripple tree is very slight, but it does help some.

Good luck with your search, but my recommendation is to take care of the wind coming from underneath first. - I can ride with the stock shield with very little buffeting.

Helmet type and style can also affect the buffeting as well.

Well, I'm taking the carpet bombing approach. Ordered a Madstad 14.5 shield, the kuraykan fork "dog bowl" and the HD fork Deflectors. Madstad has a full refund policy, so I'm going to give it a shot. Not sure how I'm going to like the look, but if it's a cone of silence behind it, I may be able to live with it! I'll start with the deflectors before I inbox the madstad, seeing if they make a difference before unwrapping the $300 shield...

I'll report back.

Default Madstad arrived

Got the 14.5 Madstad shield yesterday and threw it on. Haven't gotten the lower deflectors yet, so there's that, but the shield is pretty amazing. Not sure about smoking a cigar at 70 like some say, but that may still have to do with the lower deflectors. But gone is the jackhammer buffeting on the helmet at anything below 75 mph. Faster it starts to come back, but I don't get up there that much on the glide. Maybe when passing, but its temporary.

All in all, its GREAT. Ugly as hell, but the best air i've had so far. Think I am going to get the next size up shield though, as I have it extended pretty high up. Just an appearance thing, as I don't think i'll need it any higher, but it leaves a bigger gap on the bottom then I'd prefer.

Anyway, more to come when the lower deflectors arrive - the "dog bowl" is scheduled today from amazon, and the HD ones are coming to the dealer any day.

Thanks for the Madstad recommendation. It's awesome.

Which reminds me, they are having a 10% off promo for the holidays. I forget the code but if you call them they can apply it.

I was curious about the Madstad at first too but couldn't get over the style of it. I have been extremely happy with my Freedom anyways. Good to hear it is working for you. I have to chuckle, we both were on the Low Rider threads and now both of us are here with Road Glides. I love the blue btw.

Very true. I still participate on the Dyna thread a fair bit, though not quite as much. Yeah, I'm hoping the larger shield will reduce the gap at the bottom is what bothers me the most. We'll see. But in any case, it works so well, it's staying!

Nice choice in bike, color, and shield. I ordered my shield from Madstad and had them drill the holes 1 inch lower to give a chopped look when all the way down. I run in the lowest position around town and raise it for highway use. Best thing I've bought for my roadie. I'm running the 13" dark grey. I use the gadds version of the dog bowl and 14-up style lowers. All in all a great package to beat the buffeting.

Okay, I am dumb. What is the "dog bowl" you are all referencing? Love Madstads too. Need to get one one of these days...

It fits between the forks below the lower clamps. It used to come stock on the touring bikes years ago. Made to deflect the air downwards.

Is it like half a circle shape with a 90 degree bend on the wide side that bolts to the trees?
