Default Tour Pak: Cable broke, hinges bent...

Just a gripe - and maybe advice if anyone has a different solution. Yesterday afternoon while putting my helmet in the Tour Pak the retractable tether on my '09 Ultra broke, the lid fell to the side, and now the lid won't close properly. Its not lining up so the latches wont work. I think the hinges are bent. I assume my only option is to replace them at this point. I guess it could have been a lot worse as it easily could have cracked the box or lid.

Sorry to hear it. I use this so that it doesnt happen to me. Expensive, but worth it!

So sorry to hear this. I'll post a few pictures of what I have done to help secure the tour pak lid. It doesn't cost much. A little paracord and a couple of cable clamps.

Ouch! My tourpak has been giving good service since the 1980s and never done that. Those hinges are replaceable, although there are some fancy ones that look just great. You can see them on the H-D website, just go to the Shop tab.

...... it's quite remarkable how often there are posts about this having happened.
... you're quite lucky that the ABS around the hinges did not crack.
........ i'd just drill out the pop rivets on the old hinges & install the newer 'premium' hinge set that HD sells.
..... i'm thinkin' i'll stick with the remarkably lo-tech cable that holds my lid when opened.

Yeah - I just got back from the dealer and picked up a set of the Premium hinges. I know they'll look great I just didn't want to bother...but of course more chrome is never a bad thing.

Premium hinges and latches from HD. Good thing the box didn't break. I threw the retractable pos in the garbage. I run the standard cable tether. I bought a spare, maybe I'll double them up to be safe.

Yeah; I am lucky for sure and that's exactly what I'm doing. I just got back from the dealer and the parts guy said that the OEM stock cables break all the time but he never hears that the retractable tethers break... who knows.

Not sure if this is the right bike, but the hinges can be found here:

Edit: Never Mind. I just read you already bought others.
