Did I find my first death wobble today?
I broke 500 miles today, and at mile 508 I decided to open her up a little. I was on RT 22 around the Kensico reservoir in Valhalla, NY. I was on a left sweeper at about 65-70mph, leaned over pretty good. There was a dip in the road and my left board touched at the bottom of th dip. As I came out of it, the *** end started wobbling. I was able to let off the throttle and apply very gentle brakes and it smoothed out.
What I've seen the so called "death wobble" the oscillation happens in the bars too, but mine seemed to be only on the rear end.
In any case, there was definitly some pucker factor for a few seconds.
I guess the new girl was reminding me I wasn't on my Dyna. It's funny, because this was at the end of a 175mile day all the time I was thinking how well it handled for an 850lb bagger.
I guess it'll just keep me humble, but if there is anything I can do to minimize that, I'd like to know! I plan on getting some Ohlins S36e's in the rear over the winter. Maybe they'll help...
FYI, it's a '16 Road Glide Special which just hit 500 miles..

Put her up on the lift, check bearing preload, or fallaway test as some call it.
Pull left side of handlebar full left.
Let go.
Watch how the front end swings back and forth
It should:
Swing right
Swing back to left
An attempt (no matter how small) to swing back towards center should be observed.
Anything other than what's described above, and it's half the reason why you get the "wobbles".
The looser the preload, the earlier the speed wobble comes in, too tight and it comes in with greater amplitude (force) at a higher speed.
