New Road Glide owner and fixed my buffeting for FREE!!!
So, Love the bike and the fixed fairing. But, wearing a full face with the shield open, I couldn't get over the buffeting. I pretty much had to close my helmet shield at 45 and above.
Disclaimer - I did by the little deflectors that go on the engine guard, so I guess my fix hasn't been totally free. But guess what solved the buffeting problem, night and day, for me? I simply removed the windshield from the bike!
Seriously, I figured that little thing doesn't do much, and I never had this issue on my road king with no windshield, or my current sportbike wehere I mostly look over the shield. I figured that removing the windshield would either get rid of the negative space behind it and thus the turbulence, or direct the turbulence lower into my chest where I wouldn't care. I really think the former happened, but even if it is the latter, I don't care. I was able to comfortably do 70 with the helmet shield up!!!
I'm 5'8 for reference, and if you don't believe me, try it yourself - its free! And it doesn't look as bad as you'd think, but then again I didn't buy a Road Glide for it's looks.
Also, the bike is a '17 Special, not an Ultra. And lastly, can anyone tell me what happens if I remove the scres completely (so I can remove the rubber gasket)? Is there something behind them that will fall into the fairing?
-Thanks

You should try the klockwerks sport flare. It is night and day difference from the stock shield. When I first bought my bike and rode it home I was a bit disappointed. But then I changed to the sport flare and it was the best thing I could of done period!
