Installing new oil cooler

Installing new oil cooler
I'm installing an aftermarket oil cooler on my 09 RK. It didn't come with instructions but I thought it would be easy since I already found the two inlet / outlet ports on the oil filter housing. The ports have plugs in them right now. They appear to be about 1/4" in size.
I checked the threads in the forum for cooler installations but the only thing I found were people talking about the different types of coolers and whether they thought they were worth anything. Worthless threads for me. I checked my manual and it didn't even show the ports or describe their purpose.
Can someone tell me which port is an inlet and which is an outlet, or does it even matter? Also, now that the oil will be running through this extra space, does that mean I need to add more oil than the manual calls for in order to keep it at the right level on the dipstick? Thanks.

Don't use them. If you want a detailed reason why do some more searching. I know this is gonna be hard on your ego but you ain't the first guy to think "Hey why can't I use these threaded ports right here for my oil cooler" They don't work. I said it twice to underline my point.............

most oil coolers use an adapter plate between the filter and the filter mount- an integral thermostatic valve directs flow through the cooler when warm.
once installed the oil level at the dipstick will be checked the same- ALL HD fluid specs are visual checks rather than absolute quantities.
if you are installing the adapter plate- some instructions are wacky concerning the gasket placement- look at this carefully
and if you don;t have a 7/16" allen wrench, you can make a tool from a 1/4" bolt and 2 jam nuts- use the head of the bolt as your driver

I appreciate the information. Since I've already trashed the packaging the cooler and clamps came in, looks like I'll end up selling them at a discount on ebay. Can't return them. This is getting to be a bad habit. I just had my rods, lifters and cam replaced and I bought the wrong rods. The mechanic tore everything open and used the gaskets that came with it so I'm stuck trying to sell the rods and chrome covers at discount. It's been one of those weeks. My wallet has a very sad face on it.

What you need is an offset oil filter adapter like these. It bolts on to the stock oil filter housing. On the offset adapter, the left fitting is the "out" port and the right fitting is the "in" port.
The fittings are 1/8" NPT to 3/8" hose single barb fittings with male threads.
Good luck.
