Review of Chinese aftermarket eBay parts

Ordered a set of those double pointed breathers early in the year. Then, I just happened to notice an account of a failure here on HDF where an owner of the same product had the casting break and a piece "may" have been sucked down the intake !!!
When my breather arrived, I prepared to send it straight back. While I had it in hand though, I examined inside the 90 degree bend section of the breather,,, shocking !! While the outside chrome was actually very nice, it concealed a part made from aluminum (??), seriously flawed, heavily and irregularly seamed, cracked, and patched by irregularly run weld beads. The irregularities and patches were so bad they literally formed partial obstructions within the elbow. Someone worked way harder to attempt to salvage that trash elbow than ever would have been attempted in North America. Evidently in China a 1/4 lb chunk of scrap aluminum is worth more than a half day's plant & labor.
The story has a happy ending. I got my $250 back. In this instance I could see what was hidden beneath the chrome. Imagine whats under Chinese chrome when you can't see beneath it !?!
Motorcycle riding carries enough concerns already without there being the additional one of wondering if parts will abruptly disintegrate while in use.

They make Apple computers there too. The difference between good Chinese products and the low priced junk most often lies in QA/QC which is conducted, in the case of better quality products, by corporate appointed expat inspectors. Less often, they just happen to make a good widget.
