RG fairing

RE: RG fairing
not real sure what the problem is... the tach/speedo plastic is pretty much solid on the front end? the main fairing is held by the bottom brackets on the engine guard - those can be loosened and moved some what... Is this a new bike?? Might be best to stop by your HD service dept and get some advice - hard to tell not standing there looking at it..
My 04 RG started life as a 04 EG - I bought all the parts and did a complete change over... When I bought my service manual, I also bought a Parts book for the EG/RG - this book has nice "blow up" pictures of all componets of the bikes and part numbers... it also shows how things go together and was very helpful in building the RG out of a EG.. I am NOT a mech but I was able to do this and it turned out very nice... I really liked my bike and was able to save a bunch of $$ by doing this swap...
Good luck on your fix, let us know what you find.... Someone here most likely has had the same problem...

RE: RG fairing
Yes it's brand new, just brought it home last night. I did see the lower supports that are bolted to the engine guards and thought that might the answer that I was looking for. Just thought I would throw it out to the forum and see what came back. Like I said, it's not a big concern it's just that I'm kinda **** about things lining up straight and all(commercial carpenter by trade).

Simply loosening the crashbar brackets is not satisfactory. If you loosen just those and try to move the fairing, you will be "twisting" the fairing. There are also four bolts that holf the inner fairing to the "snout" that hangs out in front of the steering neck. The holes in the inner fairing are slotted and are there for adjustment of this type.
New bike ~ take it back and tell them to make it right! Hopefully, they won't just try to twist it on the bottom two brackets.
As an **** carpenter, you might be happier in the end, doing it yourself and "knowing" it's done right.

The time will come later for you to learn about taking the outer fairing off...
When I built mine - I looked at a lot of RG's = I found several where the lower engine guard brackets were not adjusted the same... one was either pushed in or pull out a little more than the other - Ya, I know - anual ,, lol...
If the Dealer will allow you to watch the mech take your outer fairing off - it would be a great learning exp - never hurts to ask...

The outer fairing must come off to get to the bolts with the slotted holes? This might be something I can look at when I upgrade the speakers, is that correct? Thanks for the input guys.
