Default Ticking sound at cruise?

Just got 2000 Ultra Classic. I love it and it's my first touring bike! What's up with sewing machine sound in my Twin Cam? Is this common!

Very common. Some are noisier than others for various reasons. There are a few things that are often undertaken to minimize the noise like rocker lockers, experimenting with different oils, lifters, etc.

Funny, I had the same question. I just went from an 07 sportster to an 02 RK. Am trying to learn the new sounds. So, I am putting miles on it, and researching it. You got to this one before I did

Thanks for the info! I've heard it's normal but freaks me out! I'm looking to get that Harley sound. Stock sounded like a VW! Put on set of slipons from a friend but still not right. Want that deep throaty sound!!

Be sure to have your cam chain adjusters checked.

I had mine replaced at 39,000 (when I went with a "95" Big Bore kit and then again at 75,000 (or so) miles when I had the S/E Hydraulic Cam Adjuster Kit installed.
I talked to one guy who lost an engine on an '03 FatBoy at 25,000 miles due to his cam chain adjusters breaking up and blocking oil passages.

Also, H-D increased the warranty on the cam bearings so there must have been an issue with them.

Get used to the ticking. What slip ons did you put on? There are tons of them and many of those are almost as quiet as the stock ones. Get yourself a good header and look around on this forum for the best brand. There's a wealth of info here from a bunch of good guys and you'll be steered in the right direction. Personally, I went with Vance & Hines. I wouldn't have it any other way and there are those that will disagree too. Fuel Moto is another great company and they have very good quality products.
Good luck and enjoy your new ride...Welcome!
John

Thanks John! I'm not even sure what the slipons are. You're right though they sound like stock. If I put a Vance and Hines or something else, am I ok with keeping stock pipes?

You can keep the stock head pipe and put on many different slip ons but the head pipe is what will give you more of a power gain and will help the sound too; deeper tone.

This is critical on the TC 88, more so if noisey. Do this ASAP. Also check for exhaust leak or cracked header pipe. If motor has Amsoil/Mobile 1 20w50 synthetic oil it will also sound louder.
