Default Oil Pressure Light / Sensor Question

Hey all,

I gave my '14 RK a good, thorough hosing, and wet wash this past weekend. I dried the bike well with a leaf blower.

Afterwards, I went to start the bike. I turned on the ignition switch and got the usual light array on the dash, however, the oil pressure light indicator remained "on" while all other indicator lights were off except for the 'neutral' light. I didn't start the motor. Oil level is OK.

I turned off the ignition switch, and then turned it on again...same thing....the oil pressure light and neutral light remained on. This time however, I started the motor and the oil pressure light turned off immediately.

I let the motor warm to running temps. There were no usual engine noises. The oil pressure light remained off during the warm-up.

I'm guessing perhaps this was a one-time electrical gremlin, and/or water got into the plug on the oil pressure sensor on the motor (down near the rear brake master cylinder).

I'm going to start it up again later today to see if it repeats.

Any chance the oil pressure sensor is starting to go bad? The bike has 8K miles. Anyone else have a similar experience? I've got a trip coming up and hoping to avoid surprises on the road.

Thanks all...

Oil light should always be on until the motor is started , with the switch on without the motor running there is no oil pressure so light stays on

Your neutral light stays on until you select a gear and, as Dave points out, your oil light stays on until you start your engine. Relax man - all is well with the world! Now if none of them had come on......

Thanks all...

I'm so damn 'Type A' I can't believe I didn't notice it before. I typically wait for the various indicator lights to go out, and the fuel injection pump/primer to stop before cranking the starter/engine. Could have sworn that only the 'neutral' light remained 'on' when cranking the motor in the past.

I'm racing to get ready for a road trip soon...it was probably the nerves getting to me...LOL.

Thanks again...

If the bike isn't running, there shouldn't be any oil pressure, thus, the light staying on. I don't know how a non-running motor would create oil pressure.

Seems normal to me.
