Default Weird issue with clearwater lights

Have had clearwater darla''s on my 14 sgs for 6 months or so and love them. Today, while parking the bike in the garage, turning the bars to the right I saw the lights flash very quickly, first time I noticed this. Put it up on the j&s Jack and turned the bars left and right numerous times and sure enough, every now and then when I turn the bars to the right the clearwater lights would randomly flash high or completely go out for a second. Ripped everything apart and double checked all my connections, inspecting for pinched/shorted wires. Put everything back together and tried turning the bars numerous times left and right on the lift, lights cut out a few times, not nearly as many times after I spliced the few wires again, but still happening. Anybody got any clues? May have to contact clearwater on this one

Where did you ground them? If grounded to the triple tree, you may be losing your ground through the neck bearings. Try grounding to the frame or battery.

Good thought but the clearwater harness didn't have a ground with the kit that I remember. Just had a fusible link directly to battery, low beam wire and high beam wire

It has to be grounded somehow. That's where I'd check first.

Will pull the seat off and check tonight. Think it may have had a ground that I just took to the negative battery terminal

Fixed it! After much head scratching and chasing wires down, pulled the headlight and started wiggling/pulling wires to replicate the problem. Got to the relay and voila! Lights would flicker in and out when I wiggled one of the wires at the relay. Started to tug gently on this suspect wire that was soldered to the tab on the relay and the wire pulled right off. Solder joint was broken and the only thing still holding it on was the heat shrink. Rather than try to Solder it back on while installed on the bike, just crimped a stake on connector and all is good

Other than that little problem, how do you like the lights? I've debated getting some.

absolutely love them, while I haven't had the chance to ride at night much with them yet, I swear they put out more light than my Daymaker reflector headlamp and auxiliary lamps together. They do a great job of filling in the dead spot of light directly in front of the bike
