The headlight went from the horizontal bar shaped "hot spot" to a round spot light pattern with very soft edges. Raising the beam high enough to light the road at a distance put too much of the round pattern in opposing drivers' eyes. Went back to the halogen bulbs.

That is my experience with two H4 LED replacement bulbs. I also went back to the Halogen.

This is because the reflectors are designed to produce a specific pattern with the light source at a particular focal point, and a replacement lamp, LED, halogen, or whatever will not necessarily be brightest at that point. Interestingly, I was able to replace the H4s in both of my Hondas with LEDs, and there was enough adjustment play in the reflectors to get good Hi/Lo patterns on both bikes with awesome results.

I've heard mixed results with HD reflector housings, so I didn't even try-My advice to the OP is call Custom Dynamics, they'll give you the real skinny on what you need.

We've got Kuryakyn LED conversions on the rear of all 3 of our bikes. Fat Boy and Deluxe both have stock bullet light housings with Kuryakyn LED inserts and lenses. Yes, they needed the load equalizers or the signal lights flash too rapidly.
All 3 bikes have Custom Dynamics Dynamic Ringz LED inserts in the front turn signals. The have a ring of white LED around the outer perimeter of the light for running lights. When the turn signal is activated, all the LEDs in the center of the light insert will flash amber. The Fat Boy and Deluxe have bullet style housings, the Road King has flat style. The 2 Softail models have old style smoked, real glass bullet lenses. The RK got front lenses that look like chrome until the running or signal lights are on, then the light shows through the lens instead.
I just got done installing a new rear signal light bar on the 2001 Road King I recently bought. Not a huge fan of the big *** stock unit. Couldn't order the bar with LED already in it, so got the inserts/lenses to go in there. The RK also got a J&P Webbed LED tail light. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/306-926
All 3 bikes have a Kuryakyn module that makes all 3 rear lights into running & brake lights, as opposed to just having only the tail light be a running & brake light.

Nice theory. An H-4 bulb is an H-4 bulb. I am done with trying to convert my headlight and will only consider replacement. Have not found anyone selling LED headlights willing to refund 100% should I not be satisfied. To me that shows those products are probably not as good as advertised. I have also found many folks who locally have installed and rave about the LED H-4 replacements do not ride much at night, and most are not travelers. Lots of misinformation out there for Harley aftermarket items.

The LED H4 SHOULD meet the same light emitter positioning tolerance as the original halogens or they shouldn't be called "H4" replacements. The fact that many have found the light pattern inferior with the H4 conversions is more a matter of how the conversion bulbs were built, not a fault with the reflectors. Sylvania, Philllips, Eiko, or anyone else's halogen H4 all seem to work well with no adjustments. The LED conversion manufacturers should have made sure their products produced the same beam before going into mass production. Too bad most of the LED H4 replacements need more work.

I have the HD LED blinkers front and back. The BrightAssTailLight for the brake, and went with the HD spots and headlight (LEDs). The headlight and spots were purchased 5 years ago and are WAY brighter than the LED's they are now using on the Rushmore models.

My wife won't ride in front of me at night. She can't see because of the reflection in her mirrors. In addition, I can see her shadow on the road ahead of her. She calls my bike the rolling disco ball because of all the bright lights on it. That's just want I wanted...to be seen.

I would use nothing besides the BAL brake light. I didn't know about CD at the time, or I would have went with their blinker lights.

Custom Dynamics in my opinion is best

Go here - http://www.customdynamics.com/harley...rn_signals.htm

Scroll down about 3/4 page and they have turn signal light kits, I believe yours would be:
Complete HD Turn Signal Conversion Kit (1156 Rear, 1157 Front)
Fits: '96-'10 Softails, '02-'11 Dynas, '97-'13 Dressers, Road Kings, and '02-'03 Sportsters
Item: GEN200-KIT
Price: $254.95 Kit

I have a PIAA headlight bulb with Custom Dynamics turn signals on my Street Glide. On my Softail I have a daymaker headlight with Custom Dynamics turn signals and brake light.

Good luck with your conversion!
