Default Electra glide classic stereo compatibility?

Picked up a beautiful bone stock 2001 electra glide classic for a price i couldn't say no to. Other than some motor modifications and a few things here and there i'm going to leave it alone. It has a cassette deck in it though, and while i do want to stay with a factory head unit, i'm wondering if i could grab one from a newer model with the cd? Anybody know if the factory head units are directly interchangeable? and if so, what years? there's a ton of em around fairly cheap, but i don't want to buy anything that's not going to be straight swap plug and play. Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure but seriously doubt that the swap will be plug-n-play. Most likely there will be different plugs. You may be able to get the correct plugs and remind it/them to work.
I'd suggest posting in the audio section for a more definitive answer.

i have a 2000 FLHTC and it had a cassette from factory, then the previous owner installed a new factory radio with CD and worked perfect, i bought the bike from my uncle and installed the Harmon Kardon from the 06-13 bikes and it was totally plug and play, the only function thats doesnt work is the automatic volume control, hand controls also work as they should, did not need any special cables, was truly plug and play, only thing with the 06 up radio is the speakers need to be 2ohm

Yup what he said - your speakers are likely 8 ohm

Check out Biketronics. I have been using their control interface with two different Sony decks for 12 years. Great service.
