supreme confidence
i practice a lot of panic stops, scraping the foot boards (2006 street glide) and other evasive moves.i one day would like to ride like the cops i see at the rallys that i attend.so just tonight i'm ridin' home from work (i do the 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m shift) down a beautifull two lane twisty hilly country road when all of a sudden a deer jumps out on the road from my left and proceeds to run down the road just 30 yards ahead of me.i'm doin' 40 mph (5 under the speed limit) because since i've started this job it's been not if, but when,a deer and i will cross paths.so i'm hard on the front brakes, front end diving, feathering the rear brake to the ponit of chirp, chirp, chirp, pull in the clutch and with SUPREME CONFIDENCE i almosteffortlessly get myself out of what could have been a very harry situation.i'll tell you what, right now I'M THE MOTHER ****ING MAN,(sorry thats the adreniline talking).point is when all my buddies are tired of me bitching at them to practice your skills now i can relate to them this story.PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE.................. ..........**** YEAH,PEACE OUT!!!!!

RE: supreme confidence
Glad you avoided it. At night, things like that can happen. Here in NM, I don't see a lot of deer around town. A lot of coyote and rabbits, always drive more carefully at night. I took a trip with the family up to CO a few months back and saw deer and one huge buck on the side of the road. Freaked me out, I am glad that isn't an issue around here. I just have to keep a eye out for the drunks.

Man I'm glad you made it out ok. I bought the Ride Like a Pro video's and I love to practice also. I don't know anyone around here who wants to practice either. I am much more afraid of Deer than anything else because I like to ride at dusk/night. We have way, way too many of them around here.
Good job on avoiding a potentially bad situation.

RE: supreme confidence
remember and practice this: During hard or emergency stops: Apply front brake - squeeze lever until you hear a "harmonic sound" cover your rear brake, point toes upward. Down shift at the same time. During the weight transfer, you will automaticallyapply just enough rear brake to safely stop. "IF" you get a rear wheel loock-up, wiggle your toes, but don't let off the rear brake or you will high side. If you apply too much front brake [ front wheel lock up-change in the horizon, or the front end goes from rough to immediate smooth] release front brake, and reapply properly. RE: supreme confidence
I need more practice with the panic stops as well. Last week I managed to lock up the rear tire butfortunately, I was only going about 15-20 mph.
I went out and practiced the figure 8's in the box last weekend. I still need more practive on the RG because I can definitely do the better on the FXRS.
If it ever quits raining, I'll hit the practice area this weekend. I may go even if it's raining. That kind of practice couldn't be a bad thing.
