Questions from new FLHT owner
Hi All. Have been a member of the Sportster forum for awhile and have been monitoring postings here on the touring board. Today, I picked up my new FLHT, having traded in my 06 883 Sporty. I'm enjoying it tremendously so far, but have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.
First, I noticed during my intial (and only) ride today, the "check engine" light would periodically come on...stay on for maybe 10 seconds....then go off. I couldn't pick up any specific pattern, but know that it happend maybe 10 or 12 times during my initial 30 mile ride. Anybody have this happen to them? Cause? I know the manual says to take it to the dealer if this happens, but I'm wondering if I can safely ride it over the Memorial Day weekend. Sure would love to put some miles on it the next few days. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Second, despite the sketchy information which appears in the owner's manual, I am unable to locate the "fill" connection for the rear air shocks. Got a HD pump already to go, but can't find the fitting. Again, any help would be appreciated.
I truly look forward to learning much on this forum...and perhaps one day, will know enough to contribute as well.
Thanks!

RE: Questions from new FLHT owner
You need to get the dealership to check the "chack engine" light. Something has "thrown a code" to the ECM if it comes on and goes back off.... It's a historcial code, and the can clear it for you. More than likely, it's nothing.... but get it checked.
The air valve (at least on my 05) is on the bottom edge of the rear fender on the left side towards the back. It's easiest to access if ya pull the saddle bag off.
Congrats & enjoy!!!!

congrats on the new ride and welcome to the touring world!Did you remove the hard bags? The valve should be by the aft bag pin lock and upper frame rail.
turn the ignition on and push and hold trip counter button in.This will give you some diagnostic codes.Search on here for the thread with links that explain them.
If i was you,i'll take it to the dealer, rather than be broke down on the road!I had that eng light do that and it ended up being my v/regulator was bad and battery kept dying!

I wanted to answer this for you, but the other beat me to it. LOL, just make sure to not over inflate your shocks. Blow a seal, and then you will have another issue. Start out low, and work your way up in PSI, until you find your sweet spot. Also remember, when adding a passenger, you may need to adjust the PSI.

RE: Questions from new FLHT owner
PapaTravis is right, as well as everyone else on this topic. You did the right thing by getting the H-D pump. It will add air gently and gradually and the psi analog guage is easy to read and accurate. Just remember to never use a air compressor (even with a regulator guage) to fill your shocks. It is risky and you can risk blowing the seal by using anything other than the pump. Your owners manual will give you the recommended psi for solo and two-up riding according to your body weight. You can use this as a guide, but you will also need to experiment with the air pressures as PapaTravis said to find your sweet spot. I only weigh about 170 lbs. and I mostly ride solo and I've found that my sweet spot is around 5 psi. Hope this helps.
