With either bike, I can tell from your left boot that you may need to get used to the heel shifter But it won't take long. Just don't do as so many new bagger riders do and remove it. You will learn to love it and quickly.
Compared to your Sporty, and especially since you have a lady on the pillion either of those rides is going to put a big smile on both your faces.
Good luck in your choice and enjoy your young years and ride safe!!

Harleys future.
I think this is a knee jerk reaction to Indian and Victory sales. I don't see that the new engine will stem the exodus. I have 114,800 miles on my 07 FLHT. Either way, I'll likely keep mine. Harley has priced the new ones out of reach for their base, no matter the engine design.

It's funny you mention that because I too was going to take it off. I guess I'll give it a shot and see if I can get used to it.

it grows on you. Be easy with it though, easy as in heeling the rear shifter with the same force used to upshift using your toe. To me it's tempting to stomp it but I've read that may cause problems long term. Maybe I'm just an enthusiastic rider :-)

For me, it's also very handy for lightly tapping into neutral too.
Good luck with your search, going from a Sporty to a Touring bike is quite the upgrade. I rode my brother's FXR last week and while it was nimble, no way would I go back after having the Road King!
EDIT, ****, I just realized this is an old thread...looks like the OP already has the touring bike!

lay off my boots Harley! Lol what's wrong with the red wings they where good enough for Steve McQueen and Bob Dillon.... You might give them a try, they are one of my favorite boots for riding. Op if it was me I think I would wait for the 2018s to come out and deal on the 17s that are left if there isn't any big changes
