Default at what RPM do you lug

here is a toppic i havent seen broght up so here it goes, i here evryone talking about lugging there motor so exactly at what R.P.M. do you fell that you are lugging your motor. i was thinking about this on the way home from the stealer today and notices in 5th gear i could do 2500 RPMs and didnt seem to have any problems but in 6th it got to be arond 2900 or it sounds like it is being lugged. also what range do you run your rpms at say like between 2600 and 4000 or any where around there. just wondering because some times it sounds like im over reving the motor to me but doesnt seem to be by what others say.

I usually run between 2000 and 3000 rpms through all the gears. Anything below 2000 starts to lug in all the gears. Mine is an '05 Ultra.

Same here, 2200 is about the lower end before downshifting. It loves running 2500 to 2700.
And for 6th gear, over 70mph only.

2200 is my low also except for 1st (naturally) and 2nd gear. I'll use 6th at 65 mph.

Lugging constitutes acceleration or opening the throttle to increase the speed. It is trying to make the engine push the bike outside of it's power band. Correct?
My 07makes the rocks in a can noise in 5th and 6th up to 2800 rpm. I sometimes hear the noise in lower gears but not as dramatic.
Question for Gunrunner or other non-believers...
If the 07 noise is from lugging then why does it happen only in 5th and 6th at the designated lugging rpm?

My preference is about the same as yours. Always felt that most engines are really lugging even before the rider senses it. She sounds kinda OK as low as 2200 but 2300 in the lower gears just has a better feel & effortless feel to the bike.

Yeah.... buddy lugs his motor bad. Seen him do 45mph in 6th cuzzzzzz he don't wanna downshift. *eye rollage*. I tell him his bike sounds 'sick' when he does it... he don't care. riding parade-mode a lot of the time I see him shift around 2300-2500rpms and see his needle go down to 1500-1800. Bike sounds like crap. He has to give it 'more' gas to let it slowly climb back into the 2k range.

Me..... I try and feather the clutch so I keep it around 2k or higher for all gears. Even starting out in 1st. I try and get the revs goin a bit.

6th seems happier at least 2300rpms. If I look and see I'm at 59mph I downshift back to 5th.

Funny thing is that I run higher revs than my buddy .... little more 'gas-n-go' and run usually 3000-4500 for shifting .... and we are within 1mpg difference all the time when filling up. He is lugging so badly he is wasting gas when he gives it throttle it takes it longer go bet to a point where he actually has some HP and torque for the bike to 'go'.

Tried tellin him over and over... that < 2k/rpms the bike sounds like it is gonna die and sounds BAD ... but he don't listen. Probably why his pipes are so blue as well... he isn't pushin out the exhaust.
