at what RPM do you lug

RE: at what RPM do you lug
For those of us without a way to see our RPM's (Road King owners) I shift into 4th at 45 and ride in 4th up to 60 mph. I ride in 5th between 60 mph and 70. Don't use 6th unless I'm going over 70 on the interstate. Like iceman if I see I've dropped below 60 at any time I downshift to 4th.

Tried tellin him over and over... that < 2k/rpms the bike sounds like it is gonna die and sounds BAD ... but he don't listen. Probably why his pipes are so blue as well... he isn't pushin out the exhaust.

RE: at what RPM do you lug
My new Street Glide seems to lug below 2200 rpms in 3rdand 4th gear. I like to keep it at about 2500 in all gears and that's my normal shift point. On the freeway it's never in 6th till I'm over 65 mph. That's the way I'm breakingher in. I've got about 500 miles on her since last Friday evening at 6:30 when I picked her up from the dealer. Been ridin' and lovin' it!!!

well, maybe he'll listen after he bends a rod and has to do a bottom end on his scoot. its better to run a little high on the rpm than low.

RE: at what RPM do you lug
on an 07 street glide ,new ,prior to the 903 recall, i would shift the engine at 75 mph ( i forget the rpm's now ) anything below that and the engine felt like it was lugging .
after the recall i can shift into 6th at 65 mph and all is ok.
i have no idea what it is that they did .
as explained to me by hd at the daytona show, they reduced fuel delivery by 20% at 30 % throttle ,or is it 30% at 30% ????
anyhow ,the above is the way it is on my bike

Like the others here in 6th gear if it falls below 65mph I need to downshift. This was somewhat of a pain on our last trip. We would be going along at 75 and come to a corner or car and would fall to 60 before speeding back up. I found myself shifting to 5th then back to 6th then back to 5th then.. well you get the ideal. Finally I just left it in 5th at 75 because i knew I would be right back down to 60. Once you get out on open straight road then 6th is the BOMB!!! You can run 80 or 85 all day long at 3000rpm.
