Default High mileage, Headlights pulsing

Here is a weird one.

Just been noticing this in the last couple of months.
When I'm riding at night, I notice that my headlights get bright, then suddenly they get dim. The gradualy get bright again then drop off to dim. This keeps happening over and over, like they charge up and then lose voltage or something. It's not like they get so dim I can't see. I just notice it big time.

The bike has 136K miles. The stator and voltage regulator are original parts. I certainly don't want to throw parts at the situation. The engine seems to be running great.

Anyone have a clue.

Perform the usual checks on battery, regulator and stator. All three bulbs or just headlight?

It's kind of funny. I just really can't tell if the aux. lights are doing it too. Need someone to get out in front of me and watch.

While you are riding? I had a Mustang years ago where the headlights would just go out completely while running down the road. Traced is back to when I tapped the headlight circuit for the fog lights, I was over drawing amps on the headlight circuit.
My vote is for the voltage regulator.....

one field on the stator ng? time for a volt meter and a bit of basic diagnostics. a graphing meter will act as a scope and show you if the voltage is "clean" Somtimes if you have a couple of big draw amplifiers it takes a capacitor to smooth things out

Cleaned battery connections with light sandpaper and applied dielectric grease.

All fixed. Everything working better now.
