Default Detachable Knockoff Hardware Nervous

Installed Chinese eBay knockoff detachable trunk hardware on my bike over past two days. Before I actually run the bike with the trunk attached, I'd like opinions about the possibility of trunk coming off as I motor down the express-way. For about $200.00 total(versus $600.00 for Harley detachable kit plus another $2-3 hundred for Airwing-like luggage rack) I bought the trunk/bike detachable hardware, now installed, plus a Harley-like Airwing detachable Airwing luggage rack with running/brake lights. The cost for all this is a about 1/4 what the Harley stuff would cost. Yes, I am a cheap Basta*d, so might you be if you were on my fixed retirement income. So, now I am wondering....... could it fall off as I am motoring down the freeway? The latches snapped closed and seem tight but I am still nervous.

Would you install backup safety straps of some sort on the trunk hardware to prevent it from disengaging and/or falling off? Your detachable hardware knock-off experience is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

VR

The stuff Harley sells is prolly made in Asia, so I wouldn't worry.

I have the real deal, but if they're anything like the HD quick detach latches, you need not worry.

It might look like something is broken back there if you use straps.

Shouldn't you have asked this BEFORE you bought them? Just sayin.

Ya get what ya pay for. At least at Harley if it breaks and falls off you have some one to go to for replacement. Good luck with an eBay sale.

Ya. You should have asked who has them and their opinion of them first. Best thing about these forums. No matter what. Pretty much someone has either done it or bought it.

I have them and ordered replacements off some guy on eBay, who also Keyes the new lock to my HD key. Works well for me.

Steel hardware is exceptionally secure, even if from a third-world country--and not even lightly stressed by the relatively light-weight tour pack. Now, throw the wife's weight back there, and I would start looking at it closer... I bought a knock-off box, but HD quick-detach rack. The mounts, though, are eBay knock offs. They're steel, well made, and well chromed. I'll be examining them regularly, though, for a bit...

If the HD stuff breaks no dealer is going to replace it [for free]. Not unless the dealer installed it and that's a big maybe. Mostly you're fukd either way.

Purchase some of that stuff on eBay that claims its American-made. I'm on my phone but I'd have to look it up I bought some racks from a seller claiming American and I have had zero issues and they seem quality no problem. If I'm not mistaken he had 4 point Hardware to. Only thing I needed was rack and I've had zero issues.
