One thing to think about is your position when you are stopped at a light. I point my front tire at an angle so I can ride around the car in front of me and watch for upcoming traffic behind me. That way you always have an escape route for the distracted A-hole behind you that will make you a steel sandwich. I had 2 buddies get creamed by a girl texting, no skid marks from her car...luckily they lived.

I ride in the left tire track. I answered wrong. I try to avoid the center of the lane due to that's where most of the gunk from cagers are dumped.

I ride wherever I feel comfortable, sometimes close to center line depends on the traffic, sometimes close to shoulder

I try to protect my lane most times.........but that being said these days with all the distracted cages out there I ride where traffic and conditions dictate.

I tend to wander around until I find the smoothest path.

Answered to the left, because given an open road, alone that is where I end up, no center oil drippings, no edge of road garbage. Now throw in some obstacles, additional riders, cars, potholes or what have you and I adjust. I am not a position snob, more like a vertical snob as in, I prefer to keep my bike vertical, anything else just sounds unpleasant.

I use the whole lane..and depends on where/what is going on around me.
I treat everyone in a cage as if they can't see me/hear me/don't give a flying F about me.

I totally disagree as I have always (many years) ridden close to the center line (about 2 or 3 feet from the line). When in a group ride the leader is in the number 1 positions (closest to the center of road). The remaining riders staggered behind.
Wow... You just opened up a can worms with this thread.
