The stock radio is an 80w 20w per channel X4 or 40w 20w X2..

So if you put an amp that has less wattage, your defeating the purpose.. also you'll need to upgrade the speakers to handle higher wattage..

Bottom line, Hogtunes has a setup for a bike for 2 speakers, or 4...

If you just ad an amp, you could blow the speakers, alsoamp manufactures rate wattage different from one to another.. It could say 1000watts.. but thats right before it smokes...

As far as wiring, pos, neg.. speakers in and speakers out... kinda simple... You may need to set the HK to low level input... or turn all the bass treble to a minumum..

my bad, let me be more clear. I'm installing six by 9's in my bags. I've replaced the stock five & 1/4's in the fairing.
Now I need to wire an amp to the stock radio. Amps use RCA jacks to connect. The Harley radio has it's own plugs without RCA jacks.
My question is what is the cleanest way to wire the amp to the radio?

Come off the stock wires to the existing speakers and use line level converters from your local stereo shop or radio shack to convert the signal to "RCA". You can then plug into your amp and come out of your amp back to your speakers.

I had this done to my bike---I can't help you becuase I got it done at SoundProin Conyers, GA---any stereo shop should be able to help---I put 6 x 9 kenwoods in the bags, 6 1/2 kenwoods in the Ultra Tour Pak and Mb Quart in the fairing. I have a 300 watt MTX 4 channel amp in the bags its small but has very clean power--- I could have went a little bigger on the amp maybe the 500 watt 4 channel---all have quick disconnect plugs. The sound is incredible---nothing like pulling up to the godwing boys and cranking some bass on them. I ride down the highway and clearly hear the stereo. My brother has 4 6x 9s in his bags (Ultra) and a 1,000 watt amp---it isloud crystal clear music---incredible but to much for me.

I think I have a picture I can send you.
