There's a novel idea. Follow the instructions in the factory manual. I like it!

I don't understand all the concern over the tiny bit of fluid that may be left in the ABS pump anyway. Hell, do a fluid change on the engine, trans or primary and you're leaving several ounces of old fluid in the bike and no one seems concerned about that...

I believe the theory is that the old fluid in the system is what causes the ABS modules (and consequently - the brakes) to fail, and why everyone is now making such a big deal of flushing the system every two years.

HD has speced a 2 year flush interval on the brake fluid since at least 09.
If the FSM doesn't call for it and there's no TSB or recall then I wouldn't worry too much about the, what, 1/2 ounce of fluid left in the pump. Even if the ignition thing or several "panic" stops succeed in purging the abs you'd still have to completely reflush the system to get the old out again.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about the abs. But I understand if someone feels they must.

Old thread I realize. This is how I interpret my manual.

To be honest, i don't remember if I read it for my other bikes. Why do they mention only the vac pump? The clutch says to pump lever?

Has this changed over time due to issues?

To my knowledge I have not braked hard enough to use ABS yet. That I could tell. Does it cycle anyone it's own or is the fluid in the pump the fluid since last time it was called on?

If you 't answer the question, or discuss ABS, why post? You guys got a crush on me. Having groupies is not as much fun as I thought it would be.

I’m confused with this entire process. Air or not why can’t you just bleed your brakes like any other brake system? Loosen bleed valve, squeeze handle, hold, tighten valve, release handle. Repeat???
