Properly bleeding ABS brakes... what's the cheat?

The factory service manual does not require cycling the ABS module for replacing the brake fluid as part of regularly scheduled maintenance . The only time digital tech is mentioned is when air has been introduced into the system. Myself, I follow the service manual and leave it at that.
I don't understand all the concern over the tiny bit of fluid that may be left in the ABS pump anyway. Hell, do a fluid change on the engine, trans or primary and you're leaving several ounces of old fluid in the bike and no one seems concerned about that...

There's a novel idea. Follow the instructions in the factory manual. I like it!

If the FSM doesn't call for it and there's no TSB or recall then I wouldn't worry too much about the, what, 1/2 ounce of fluid left in the pump. Even if the ignition thing or several "panic" stops succeed in purging the abs you'd still have to completely reflush the system to get the old out again.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about the abs. But I understand if someone feels they must.

To be honest, i don't remember if I read it for my other bikes. Why do they mention only the vac pump? The clutch says to pump lever?
Has this changed over time due to issues?
To my knowledge I have not braked hard enough to use ABS yet. That I could tell. Does it cycle anyone it's own or is the fluid in the pump the fluid since last time it was called on?
